Ok I have seriously become obsessed with acai smoothie bowls. I know these have been the latest craze for a while now and as always I’m jumping on board at least several months (if not years late) but come on, how awesome are smoothie bowls, ? More importantly, how awesome is my papaya smoothie bowl?
They’re like smoothie with a more frozen yogurty consistency that are packed full of awesome delicious fruits, veggies, supplements, you name it. And then you get to sprinkle on all your favorite toppings and with every single spoonful you get that smooth creamy texture with vibrant juicy fruit and crunchy nuts and granola.
I pretty much cannot think of a healthier, more energizing and wholesome way to start the day.
Absolutely no cooking required, just get that blender out and watch it turn a whole medley of fruits, liquids, powders into one fluid form.
I cannot get enough.
I had my first frozen Acai bowl off the beach in Santa Monica when I was there back in January with my cousins and I’ve been hooked ever since. It was really my cousin that introduced me. Coming from snowy and wintery Montreal he had a full list of California foods he needed to try while he was out there — acai bowls being on the top of that list.
Thanks to him I have now discovered my new favorite go to breakfast. Now don’t think I don’t like my morning eggs anymore, but I’ve been eating eggs for decades at this point, so they’re being put on the back burner for a minute here.
The frozen acai bowl we had in Cali were made with the frozen acai juice packs, but while browsing through the Vitamin Shop the other week I spotted a bag of freeze dried organic acai powder and decided that it was worth a try.
In this awesome little frozen Acai bowl with papaya, we’ve got chia seeds, acai powder, frozen bananas, coconut cream, almond butter and chopped papaya. Make sure the bananas are frozen to really get that creamy thick consistency. I’m not big on sweets so I didn’t feel the need to add any sweeter to my bowls but if you want them a little bit sweeter add in a dollop of maple syrup or agave. I like mine as is, just naturally sweetened from the fruits in the recipe already.
As for toppings, go wild. There are no rules whatsoever.
This time around I added fresh raspberries, home made granola and some hemp seeds to the papaya smoothie bowl. Have we talked about how I just recently discovered hemp seeds as well and feel the need to communicate my new found love for them all the time? Get your hands on some of those asap.
