Six ingredient holiday themed strawberry salmon with jalapeños. Ready in 30 minutes. Gluten Free & Dairy Free.
Salmon is my all time favorite fish. I just cannot get enough. It is for me the perfect fish – a little bit oily but just perfectly tender and flaky. I know there are lots of fish and seafood haters out there who have a particular dislike for salmon, but I simply do not get it.
If you ask me salmon is the perfect fish for all seasons. Around the holidays especially, when festive delicious meals made for the family are the way to go (and this red and green festive strawberry salmon with jalapeños is the perfect fit).
To do something a bit different than my usual (Asian salmon salad, oven roasted salmon, salmon cakes, etc) adding a bit of Smucker’s Fruit & Honey Strawberry Jalapeño Fruit Spread into the mix seemed like a great flavor combination. This jam is naturally sweetened with honey and is sweet with a bit of a kick.
Naturally coming from a combination of red and green ingredients – this is a perfect holiday recipe – and one that must be served with a salad made up of chopped strawberries and jalapeños.
I know, I know it might seem like a bit of a strange combination. Sweet with spicy – a jam meant more for dessert served on a large piece of flaky salmon.
I am normally a jam with tea kind of person. That’s definitely the household I was raised in. My parents (being classic Russian) love love love their tea with a spoonful or several spoonfuls of jam.
But there’s a whole new world for jam. It’s not just meant to be enjoyed with tea.
There’s a lot more meant for it.
A whole world of savory recipes.
This was my first time experimenting with jam and savory meals and I loved it. The salmon needs pretty much no prep – just salt and pepper with a light layer of this jam. You can find the jam in the tea, jelly, peanut butter, coffee aisle of you local Walmart.
If strawberry jalapeno isn’t you jam (ha – get it?!) there are lots of other flavors to choose from!
Now the fish is ready to go straight under the broiler. I love to broil salmon (and that proved to work perfectly in this strawberry salmon with jalapeños. It is by far my all time favorite way to make salmon. Minimal prep, no cleanup, and there’s always a nice crispness to the fish.
That top crusted, lightly charred crispy layer is what I live for in fish.
Do you see that layer of crispness right there? While the fish is in the broiler all you need is to quickly whip up the salsa.
Chop up the strawberries, dice up the jalapenos, sprinkle some salt, pepper, lime juice and olive oil.
This is all you need for a super fragrant and flavorful salsa that encompasses all the flavors of the jam.
This strawberry salmon with jalapeños makes for a perfect weeknight meal. Ready in 30 minutes. Minimal cleanup. A short list of ingredients. A super easy meal to make around the holidays with all that red and green spirit.
Impress your guests with this refreshing and interested medley of flavors. The sweetness of the strawberries mixes with the sharp spicy jalapenos for the ultimate dinner. For more recipe and entertaining ideas with Smucker’s jam check out this post.
