A super simply Asian inspired ground turkey stir fry ready in under 20 minutes and perfect for a weeknight meal. Salty, spicy and delicious. Gluten Free and Dairy Free.ย
I love a good simple weeknight dinner. Sometimes that is exactly what you need. Or a simple dish to make to pack in your parents work lunch for the following day.
Such was the case with me yesterday.
After an hours long grocery shopping excursion with my dad with took us from the Russian grocery store, to the Indian grocery store to the American grocery store (also known as BJ’s) and with a finally stop for Indian take out, by the time we got home and quickly gobbled everything up, it was time to get cooking.
Not for dinner, nope we were already fed.
But to make sure my parents had a lunch to bring to work the following day.
With a pound of ground turkey defrosting in the fridge the initial plan for the turkey was to be turned intoย turkeyย patties,ย but instead browning the ground meat to make this ground turkey stir fry seemed like a quicker alternative.
What else to throw in there for additional flavor? How about some Asian sauces and spices?
Sounds great to me. With a dab of sesame oil, fish sauce, gluten free tamari, chili garlic sauce and some fresh herbs including mint, thai basil and cilantro we were in business.
I couldn’t help grabbing a few spoonfuls for my taste test once I mixed everything together (when the meat was browned and cooked through of course).
The finished product is every so slight spicy with a perfect salty balance. The ground turkey is light and tender.
For a low carb lower calorie meal serve this in lettuce wraps. Or over rice.
I had some leftover rice so just topped the rice with this Asian ground turkey stir fry mixture. You could add in some veggie to the mix as well – lightly cooked green beans or fresh crisp cucumbers would work well.
Top with more fresh herbs and a few squeezes of Sriracha if the heat isn’t enough for you.
Eat with chopsticks to deliberately slow yourself down and provide for a bit of a cooking adventure challenge.
Seriously not so easy grabbing those last few rice morsels with your chopsticks. Took me a solid couple minutes to finally finish off my bowl!

Any suggestions to reduce the sodium content?
Vicky says
Try using low sodium tamari/soy sauce or replace the fish sauce and tamari with coconut aminos.
