Instead of the standard orange juice mimosas make a clementine and lime prosecco mimosa instead. The tartness of the lime and light sweetness of the clementine doesn’t overpower the gently and bubbly beverage and makes for a perfect starter cocktail.
If you know me you know that I love prosecco. As in love love love prosecco ( I know, there are a lot of things I seem to love love love – I just can’t help it).
When I think of prosecco the first thing that comes to mind is family mornings (slash afternoons). Whenever I am home visiting my parents the only proper way to celebrate a Saturday or Sunday is with the popping of prosecco. If you ask me it’s really the only appropriate way to bring in the weekend and say farewell to the work week (as least temporarily).
I love the look and feel of a prosecco flute – the long slender handle with the elongated thin glass itself. The glass itself just oozes sophistication. While there are tons of different brands to choose from one I’d like to highlight today is Voveti. This is a high quality craft prosecco with only 15,000 cases produced annually (so get your hands on it quick)! It is a chic and modern Italian prosecco that is right on the crossroads of affordable luxury and classic style.
It is a Brut prosecco – which I personally love and is crafted from 100% prosecco grapes. While I was in Italy last summer I sadly did not have a chance to visit the region where prosecco hails from but I hope to return in the future with a full tour of the area and a sampling of as much prosecco as possible.
While Voveti prosecco is delicious on its own, with a sharp and graceful profile, it’s even better turned into a prosecco mimosa cocktail. I’m not a huge fan of the standard mimosa – the orange juice in my opinion completely overpowers the gentle and subtle bubblyness of the prosecco and just takes over all tasting notes. When I make a prosecco mimosa, I go for clementine and lime instead.
Clementines and limes make for a much better pairing. In these clementine and lime mimosas I used juice, zest and sliced rounds of both fruits to enhance the flavor. With a tablespoon of clementine juice and a teaspoon of lime juice in each cocktail the fresh fruit juice does not overpower the crisp Voveti prosecco – instead complementing the already lightly fruity notes. The zest adds a bit of sharpness and the sliced rounds allow you to muddle your drink if you prefer or just create a nice presentation of the beverage.
If you’ve only been drinking champagne before you have got to give prosecco a try. I’ve been enjoying it for years and prefer it to champagne. I find prosecco is not as strongly carbonated as champagne and therefore lighter and milder in taste, which I love. It pairs perfectly with various fruit mixes though clementines and lime might be my new favorite way of serving it. That’s why I just love making this recipe for prosecco mimosa – it’s just so good
Whether you enjoy your prosecco at noon on a weekend, or with appetizer for dinner I can guarantee that it’s good at all times of day and pairs well both with food and without it.
So do give it a try – make your next prosecco mimosa and add in some zesty citrus for a sweet and refreshing drink!
