How do you feel about organic food? Is it something your purchase often? Do you see the importance in eating organic?
I personally try to purcahse organic food as often as possible. Naturally sometimes I cannot find everything in the organic section, but when I can I choose to spend the extra money on it. I truly believe in the added health benefits of purchasing organic and find that even though organic food is more expensive, it is is worth it. Having had a close family member suffer from cancer twice, I understand the importance of taking care of my body in order to ensure disease prevention, even at a young age. One of the ways that I do this is by purchasing organic.
The higher price tag is the biggest issue deterring people from purchasing organic. Then there’s the issue of availability. Organic food is not always readily available in all regions, or grocery stores.
Luckily, there is a possibility of this changing in the near future. In order for organic food to be more affordable, more readily available and for the industry as a whole to grow the Organic Check Off Program has been created.
What is the Organic Check Off Program you ask? This program was raise over $30 million per year for promotional, educational and research activities for the organic industry. The Organic Check Off Program would generate money for the organic sector to educate consumers about organic and it’s benefits, distinguish organic from lesser claims and unregulated seals like “natural”, confirm the science behind the benefits of organic, allow for research into solving problems with invasive pests, bring new farmers into organic production, and transition farmland into organic production in the US. This program will allow for funding for young farmers to be educated in the world of organic farming.
Remember the “Got Milk” ads you used to see everywhere? How about some “Got Organic” ads? This Organic Check Off Program would allow for a nationwide media plan in the form of TV ads, media placements, social media, etc.
