Quite simple the best appetizer out there – baked oysters with spicy mayo panko sauce. Five ingredients and only 10 minutes of cooking time required. Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free too.

Baked oysters with panko aioli

So it should come as no surprise that I absolutely love oysters. I mean, you’ve seen my instagram account right? I pretty much post more oyster pictures than anything else.

My love affair with oysters started back in Marseille, France in June of 2013. My mom came to visit D and I as we were frolicking all over the world, and in a tiny little port restaurant in Marseille my mom suggested we order raw oysters.

From that point I was hooked. What started as one dozen, quickly turned to two and then three. With a shout of encore, the serve brought us out another round of the delicious and freshly shucked oysters. With a drizzle of lemon juice and some Tabasco I was hooked. I mean the two of us were just on a roll. D on the other hand was not enthused and was not interested in trying a single raw oyster. Well more for me and mom is what I say!

And then we were pleasantly surprised by the end of the evening as we got home when we realized that we had not been shared for a full dozen oysters! Even better !

Now of course my oyster eating habits have evolved to include horseradish (oh my god sooo good) and now the occasional cooked oysters. I can’t just be eating raw oysters all the time right? So my mom turned things up a notch and started making cooked oysters at home. Good thing she’s got my dad to do all the oyster shucking for her! Not sure she would be able to handle that on her own.

Have you ever tried shucking oysters? I have, and I can tell you it’s no small feat. You’ll really be working for your food if you’re shucking them too!

Now, I can’t take any credit for this baked oyster recipe. This one was created by my mom.

Naturally my parents know just how to welcome me home after a 5 month 20,000 mile roadtrip across America.

They welcomed me with baked oysters.

They know me so well.

Now some people can be a bit unsure of slurping up raw oysters, especially ones they shuck themselves, and I understand that, but with these cooked  baked oysters all fears should fall aside.

These are lightly boiled, just for ten minutes but with a simple sauce made with mayonnaise (my fave), Sriracha, gluten-free panko, and lemon juice, these are instantly transported to the next level.

Seriously so so good. Might just be the best cooked oyster sauce I cooked think of. Pretty much doesn’t get much simpler than just 5 ingredients in this baked oyster recipe for the ultimate appetizer to impress all your guests.

Now I could eat about a dozen or more myself, so I will let your oyster enthusiasm dictate the serving size. Though I’m pretty sure you’ll always want more once you try these baked oysters with spicy mayo panko sauce.

Best of all they are also gluten-free and dairy-free, for all those with dietary restrictions.

Next time you’re having oysters try some broiled ones!
