I have pretty much spent the last two and a half years of my life in constant travel mode; always on the go, hopping from city to city or country to country.
When you’re in transit one of the worst things to experience is hunger.
There’s nothing pleasant about boarding a ten hour bus knowing you’ve got no snacks whatsoever with you.
With that in mind, I always think one step ahead and make sure that I bring food with me wherever I go. The easiest thing to bring is a handful of granola bars, so when V8 approached me to see if I was interested in reviewing their new line of protein bars and protein shakes I jumped at the opportunity.
The V8 Protein shakes come in multiple flavors, but each have a whopping 12 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber (as much as in one cup of kale), no high fructose corn syrup, and as much calcium and vitamin D as a glass of milk. The shakes blend dairy, soy, pea brown rice and quinoa proteins with sweet honey and sugar. The shakes are meant to be used as a quick breakfast on the go or a mid afternoon snack between meals.
With high levels of protein and fiber and coming in at 200 calories per bottle, these act as a mini-meal replacement. What I love about the shakes is that they each contain a quarter cup of vegetables too! V8’s goal in creating these shakes is to provide ample energy, all coming from familiar ingredients. The three flavors of shakes that I tried were vanilla, chocolate raspberry and chocolate.
My favorite was the chocolate. It was hearty and rich in chocolate-y flavor. I mean who can really say no to chocolate, right?
Now on to the bars.
The bars are made with 10 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, no fructose corn syrup and a quarter cup of vegetables in each bar. They are sweetened with honey sugar and brown rice syrup, and come in at a total of 190 calories per bar. The bars are a mix of soy protein, nuts, oats, spices and various other flavorings. These come in multiple flavors and I tried the oatmeal raisin, chocolate pomegranate, and chocolate peanut butter.
I can’t say I’ve tried too many protein shakes in my life, so those may be difficult to compare, but bars, well those I have sampled dozens of. So I can confidently say that these are very delicious protein bars. They are thick, hold well together and are really dense with flavor. These are perfect as a snack between breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner. Or maybe even as a bit of something sweet after dinner.
I liked all three flavors of the protein bars. The oatmeal raisin resembles the taste of an oatmeal cookie, but in thick crunchy bar form. The chocolate pomegranate almost resembles a brownie in that dense chocolate taste and form. The chocolate peanut butter was my favorite, a mix of two delicious flavors compacted into one bar. The bars are a little bit sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. They really do fill you up and are a great snack to carry with you on the go.
The bars and shakes can be purchased online from Amazon or bought from your local grocery store. Buy now!

Overall I enjoyed sampling the bars and shakes. I personally am more of a bar girl and always go to those when I need a snack while I am traveling, so I can definitely see myself stocking up with a few of those for my next trip.
