Vegan Energy Balls with Chocolate from this 7-ingredient recipe are packed full of protein, and tons of healthy vitamins and nutrients while only having 3 grams of sugar per ball. Just blend everything in the food processor and it’s ready in minutes. Practically a healthy dessert! Gluten Free too. Vegan energy balls with chocolateHow is it the very end of 2015 already? Where does the time go? I literally feel like time has been flying by ever since I started college. High school was the last time I remember actually thinking to myself. ‘ugh when is it going to summer break/winter break/spring break already?’

……….Click HERE to Pin this Recipe for Later……….

Ever since 2006 I pretty much haven’t had a minute to utter words anything like that because the entire year has been over before I knew it.

With the Christmas holiday behind us and New Years resolutions dangerously close, these are the few days in between when you really need to think about what it is you are hoping to work on in the new year.

I assume for many of you following this blog that is healthier eating. Anyone who knows me knows I love to eat, but sadly can’t exactly be eating pasta with heavy cream and pizza for breakfast.

Nor do I want to.

There is a whole world of healthy cooking out there, where the meals are delicious and you truly feel good, inside and out after eating them.

You don’t have to sacrifice flavor or most of your favorite tastes. With the proper recipe you can have you cake, in this case vegan energy balls, and eat it too. In this post I have partnered up with

While I am not 100% vegan I frequently cook and eat vegan based meals and can go days without consuming any animal products whatsoever. One of my main concerns is that I rarely get enough protein. I am simply not fulfilling my daily protein quota, which is one of the reasons that a vegan protein powder is such a great option for me.

7 ingredient vegan energy balls

What I love in particular about the Plant Fusion Organic Protein Powder is that it is also made with fermented foods, which are known to aid in digestion as it is packed with natural food based probiotics. Since I do not eat yogurt I am not getting my probiotics through that and instead of separately taking probiotic pills I much prefer the live whole fermented foods being added to the protein powder itself.

While you can always just make a protein shake with protein powder I wanted to do something a bit different. I wanted to incorporate protein powder into these vegan energy balls – a dessert that would not only be healthy and low in sugar but also high protein as well.

I mean instead of eating processed sweets with no nutritional content at all I decided to sneak a bunch of uber healthy nuts and seeds into the mix to create these chocolate truffle vegan energy balls as a healthy dessert.

We’re talking vegan protein powder, cacao powder, chia seeds, hemp hearts, oats, maple syrup and cashew butter. Can you feel yourself getting healthier already?

So while you’re thinking up those New Years resolutions just know that you don’t have to give up chocolate and dessert for good to start eating healthy. You just need to start making the right dessert recipes – and these vegan energy balls with chocolate are the perfect start.

All the ingredients in the recipe for the vegan energy balls get tossed into the food processor together, mixed and then formed into balls that need 10-15 mins of freezer time before being ready for serving.

These vegan energy balls are literally ready in minutes and oh so good. Rich, chocolatey with little morsels of nutty cashew flavors and various seeds that you keep getting a hint of.

If you’re interested in trying out the Plant Fusion products they have sample packs available on the website for just $10 and each pack comes with a $5 coupon redeemable for a full size product at participating stores.  This way you can order different flavors if they would like to try the products first before ordering full size.

Thanks! I am not a huge fan of peanut butter on it’s own but when added to baked goods or into energy balls like these I am perfectly fine with it so yet these can definitely be made with peanut butter instead!

Will it work to basically substitute any other nut butter for the cashew, or you haven’t tried it to know how it would work?

I am sure you could use any nut butter, though I have only made these with cashew butter so I can only comment on how they taste with the cashew butter. I do not see why they would not be good with almond or peanut butter though.

Vicky: I use a protein powder that is vegan and consists of pea, cranberry, and yogurt proteins. Since my protein powder (and others I’ve bought prior) are so expensive, is there a real difference in these protein balls if I just use what I have?

Vegan and gluten free – my kind of recipe! I have never tried Plant Fusion protein powder. I’ll check it out. My go-to is Vega All-in-One, but sometimes I get a hemp protein powder.

If I have chocolate protein powder will I also need the cacao powder or can I just use my chocolate protein powder in place of plain protein powder and cacao powder?

I used both the protein powder and cacao powder but you could try just using the protein powder – they might not be as chocolatey and have a stronger protein powder flavor, but let me know how they turn out if you make them!

This recipe doesn’t say how many servings (balls) that it is supposed to make. If it says a serving is 93 calories, I want to know how many to make so that one ball = 93 calories.

    • Vicky says

      August 22, 2017 at 11:45 am

The full batch should make about 20 balls of 93 calories each. Up to you know big to make the balls.

They do seem quite high in sugar. How sweet do they taste?

    • Vicky says

They are not super sweet. I would say just sweet enough without being overwhelmingly sweet. If you are worried about them too sweet just add half the amount of maple syrup (amounting to 2 tablespoons) and trying them that way.
